LA TIMES:The secret to Sparks star Cameron Brink’s success after her ACL injury?

As a sport psychotherapist and mental performance coach working with collegiate and pro athletes - including the Los Angeles Sparks - supporting injury recovery is a very common part of my work - but not one that gets a lot of attention.

When an athlete is injured, everyone talks about the grind of the physical rehab. But the mental journey - happening more quietly in the background - is critical too.

For athletes like the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association)'s Cameron Brink, who suffered an ACL tear last year and recently returned to play, her mental tools were critical to staying the long path of recovery, and coming back with a bang!

Visualization. Nervous system resets. Focus cues. Confidence banking. Breathwork.

These tools help keep athletes locked in, emotionally regulated, and steadily rebuilding trust in their body so they can get back to what they do best - performing amazing athletic feats.

Thanks to Ira Gorawara and the Los Angeles Times for shining a light on the mental side of athlete injury recovery in this recent article. Because comeback seasons aren’t just built in the gym — they’re built in the mind too.
